I disagree. I think New Zealand did just what it felt it needed to do to get past Spain, and no more, to avoid peaking too early. When they poured it on, as they did in the last semi-final race, they were awesome, with Barker showing skill and intensity comparable to Spithill.
It's an irony of AC competition that challengers are able to refine their skills in the elimination series, while the defender can only practice against itself. This is part of why I currently rank all of the remaining three boats as roughly equal in likelihood of winning this Cup.
